Trapped: Chapter 8

Matthew's throat went dry, and he repeated dully, "8374-RU5?"

The bot's screen flashed again, and it snapped, "Who gave you permission to use my name, human?! You refer to me as "Master," or otherwise face the consequences."

"Master?! Give me a break! Who in their right mind would call a kidnapper 'Master?' Unless I somehow get Stockholm Syndrome, I doubt that will happen anytime soon, 8374-RU5!" Matthew blustered, softly panting after he finished speaking.

"Hmph. If I can't get you to do obey now, perhaps starvation will be persuasive enough for you," 8374-RU5 sneered, silently rolling out of the room, leaving the Canadian in total darkness again.

A cold sweat went down his back. No food or water? I could die here without ever seeing any of my family or friends ever again… Matthew thought, his mood slowly becoming more and more depressed.

Still, I refuse to cry. I know everyone back home would want me to stay brave and think of a way to escape. The Canadian gained resolve, and shook his head, dispelling all of his despair. So that's what I'll do…After I sleep a little… Matthew's body was still exhausted, and despite his best efforts, he still fell into a dreamless sleep.

The Canadian was suddenly awakened by a small shock in his torso. With a yelp, he looked to his side to see a bright pink screen.

"Be quiet, or you'll wake her up…" a boyish voice soothingly told Matthew.

"1-V4N?" Matthew whispered incredulously.

"Yes…I'm afraid that my core has been infiltrated by someone. Yet, there hasn't seemed to be any problems until now," the bot explained slowly.

"So…I'm the trigger?" the Canadian asked.

"Well, I guess you could say that," 1-V4N said in an almost melancholy voice, "But don't feel so bad! You're actually the first friend I've ever had…" the bot reassured Matthew.

Matthew blushed a little at his previous doubt of 1-V4N, and then questioned, "Wait…then how are you back in control now?"

"I'm not sure; I just remember regaining control a few minutes ago. I can't even remember when I lost control to be honest…" the robot trailed off, "But that's not the point! Here, eat this."

Sweet, syrupy chunks were poured into the Canadian's mouth. After chewing and swallowing, he identified them as canned peaches. It wasn't until he had eaten a few bites that Matthew realized how hungry he was. Like a starved wolf, he ravenously swallowed mouthful after mouthful, not caring if he choked.
"That's all I brought with me…I hope you're full," 1-V4N said softly.

"Thanks! I would have starved if it wasn't for you, 1-V4N!" Matthew thanked the robot warmly, a huge grin on his face.

"No problem, but you'll have to do me a favor," the bot said, falling back into his initial monotone voice.

"What is it?" the Canadian asked, his expression hardening.

"Help disinfect me," 1-V4N said, his pink screen glowing softly.
